In the wave of the low-altitude economy, engineering plastics have become an indispensable "unsung hero" for drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, thanks to their lightweight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. From reinforced nylon used in robust fuselages and landing gears, to polycarbonate forming transparent and impact-resistant canopy covers; from the stable performance of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) in high-temperature motor components, to the exceptional strength that carbon fiber composites provide for rotors and primary structures—engineering plastics play a critical role in reducing weight, extending range, structural design, and safety protection. SABIC CY6414-701 is a halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS alloy from the CYCOLOY™ series. It offers high heat resistance (HDT 118°C at 1.8MPa, Vicat 135°C), high flowability (MFR 14g/10min at 260°C/5.0kg), and excellent impact strength (notched Izod 800J/m). The non halogen (chlorine and bromine free) flame retardant system achieves UL94 V 0 at 1.2mm and 5VB at 2.5mm, meeting strict environmental regulations. With low CTE and good dimensional stability, it is ideal for thin wall and complex parts. Typical applications include E/E enclosures, automotive interior/exterior components, and LED lighting housings. Proper pre drying (90 110°C, 2 4h) is required before processing to ensure optimal performance.

BASF Ultramid® A 50H1 is a high performance PA66 grade based on a halogen free and phosphorus free flame retardant system. It achieves V 0 flammability rating while retaining the excellent mechanical strength and processability typical of polyamides. With a tensile modulus of 3800 MPa and good low temperature toughness – remaining robust even at –30°C – it resists brittle failure in harsh environments.
