Polyplastics DURAFIDE PPS is a linear PPS polymer manufactured by Kureha Corporation and purchased by our company. We were the first to conduct modified production and sales in Japan. Compared with traditional PPS, while maintaining its excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy and other characteristics, it has improved ductility and impact strength, making it more tough. It is widely used in peripheral parts of automobile engines and electrical parts of hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as mixing faucets for smartphones, bathrooms and washrooms.

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS for short) was commercially produced by Phillips Petroleum Company of the United States in 1973. Although the demand for high heat resistance is increasing, due to the presence of some cross-linked structures in its molecular structure, the material is relatively brittle.
In the 1980s, Kureha Corporation successfully developed a linear PPS without cross-linked structure; in 1987, our company and Kureha Corporation started business cooperation and began to jointly explore this new PPS market. Linear PPS has completely changed the market's evaluation of cross-linked PPS so far. Linear PPS has improved brittleness and laid a solid foundation for a new type of PPS.
Linear PPS and cross-linked PPS
Compared with cross-linked PPS, linear PPS represented by DURAFIDE® has the following characteristics.
. Large tensile rate and impact strength, excellent toughness.
. Less ionic impurities, can be used in electronic fields and fuel cell parts with higher requirements.
. Excellent thermal stability and easy molding and processing.
. High weld seam strength and excellent secondary processing properties such as threading and press-fitting.
. High whiteness and can be dyed.
The uses of DURAFIDE are not limited to various electronic components such as lamp holders and water pumps for automobiles, and PCUs (integrated power control units) for hybrid and electric vehicles. It is also applied to functional parts of office equipment and audio-visual equipment. Moreover, its applications in kitchen, bathroom and sanitary parts such as mixing faucets and water heaters also fully utilize the characteristics of the material.
With its excellent strength and heat resistance, more expectations will be placed on it as a substitute resin material for metals. This is DURAFIDE.
Raw materials and manufacturing methods
PPS polymer is polymerized in an organic polar solvent using p-dichlorobenzene and sodium sulfide as main raw materials.
Usually, PPS is used to improve the mechanical properties and heat resistance of the material by adding glass fibers or inorganic minerals. Therefore, by adding various reinforcing materials to the PPS polymer, materials of different grades with various characteristics can be manufactured.
