In modern firefighting equipment, the choice of material for helmet visors is of utmost importance. Today, we will delve into two high-performance plastics—PPSU and PSU—and their outstanding performance in firefighter helmet visors and other high-end applications.

Plastic DURACON POM (polyoxide), due to its outstanding mechanical properties and processing performance, has become an important material for many high-precision and wear-resistant parts, and its application fields are very wide.

The PC/ABS alloy combines the high strength and heat resistance (110°C) of PC with the easy processability of ABS, widely used in automotive (dashboards, door handles), 3C electronics (laptop casings), communications (5G base station covers), and home appliances. It features UV resistance, flame retardancy (V-0 rating), and dimensional stability. Defects like silver streaks and warping are addressed through drying (120°C ×4h), mold temperature optimization, flow promoters, and structural design. Nano-enhanced (thermal conductivity 1.2 W/m·K) and bio-based modifications (40% carbon reduction) are expanding its applications in new energy and medical fields.

BASF Ultramid T6000 (PA66/6T) is specifically developed for miniaturized electrical and electronic (E&E) components, bridging the performance gap between PA66 and PPA. This material combines excellent flow properties, easy processability, and long-lasting color stability. It exhibits superior mechanical and dielectric performance over PA66 under hot and humid conditions, while its low moisture absorption ensures dimensional stability.

SABIC CY6414-701 is a halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS alloy from the CYCOLOY™ series. It offers high heat resistance (HDT 118°C at 1.8MPa, Vicat 135°C), high flowability (MFR 14g/10min at 260°C/5.0kg), and excellent impact strength (notched Izod 800J/m). The non halogen (chlorine and bromine free) flame retardant system achieves UL94 V 0 at 1.2mm and 5VB at 2.5mm, meeting strict environmental regulations. With low CTE and good dimensional stability, it is ideal for thin wall and complex parts. Typical applications include E/E enclosures, automotive interior/exterior components, and LED lighting housings. Proper pre drying (90 110°C, 2 4h) is required before processing to ensure optimal performance.
