Engineering plastics are better than ordinary plastics in thermal stability, mechanical properties and chemical resistance, and are widely used in automotive, electronic and electrical, aerospace and other fields. The shrinkage rate of plastic reflects the degree of dimensional reduction in a plastic part after it is removed from the mold and cooled. It plays a key role in automotive electrification (e.g., charging components), electronics miniaturization (e.g., 5G antennas), and industrial extreme environments, driving industries towards lighter weight and higher performance.

SABIC CY6414-701 is a halogen-free flame-retardant PC/ABS alloy from the CYCOLOY™ series. It offers high heat resistance (HDT 118°C at 1.8MPa, Vicat 135°C), high flowability (MFR 14g/10min at 260°C/5.0kg), and excellent impact strength (notched Izod 800J/m). The non halogen (chlorine and bromine free) flame retardant system achieves UL94 V 0 at 1.2mm and 5VB at 2.5mm, meeting strict environmental regulations. With low CTE and good dimensional stability, it is ideal for thin wall and complex parts. Typical applications include E/E enclosures, automotive interior/exterior components, and LED lighting housings. Proper pre drying (90 110°C, 2 4h) is required before processing to ensure optimal performance.

PFAS, known as “forever chemicals,” are a large group of fluorinated substances with extremely stable carbon-fluorine bonds that resist degradation in the environment and pose health risks. In engineering plastics, fluoropolymers such as PTFE, PFA, and PVDF are used either as base materials or processing aids to provide heat resistance, low friction, and non-stick properties. Due to tightening regulations by the EU, U.S., and China, customers now demand PFAS test reports to verify compliance. This requirement helps avoid customs detention, meet brand owners’ sustainability mandates, and prevent costly lawsuits. Without a valid report, products risk being excluded from supply chains. The industry is rapidly moving toward PFAS-free alternatives. A certified test report has become a mandatory pass for global trade in engineering plastics.
