With the popularity of electric vehicles around the world, the technical requirements for key components are also increasing. In particular, the performance of traditional film capacitors in high temperature environments is often unsatisfactory, and it is difficult to meet the high temperature environment requirements of the application of silicon carbide technology in the inverter module, so that the full advantages of wide band gap semiconductor silicon carbide and gallium nitride can not be fully utilized.
In response to this challenge, SABIC innovated with the ELCRES™ HTV150A high temperature/high voltage capacitor film. Japan's Nichicon Corporation has used this ultra-thin specialty film to develop high-temperature, high-voltage, commercial-grade capacitors for direct-flow AC traction inverter modules for electric vehicles. This technological breakthrough helps improve the efficiency of DC AC power modules, meets the industry's demand for advanced thin film capacitors, and provides a new solution for improving the performance of electric vehicles.
The SABIC ELCRES HTV150A capacitor film is the first film in the industry to provide stable performance at operating temperatures from -40°C to 150°C and frequencies up to 100kHz, while also providing stable capacitance values, excellent insulation resistance and good dielectric properties. This fills the critical technical performance gap where traditional thin film solutions cannot meet applications above 105°C.
SABIC ELCRES HTV150A capacitor film has successfully achieved its first commercial application, becoming the key material for a new high temperature/high voltage thin film capacitor developed by Nikikon Corporation of Japan, which is designed for direct current AC inverter modules for electric vehicles. The new thin-film capacitors can help the electric vehicle industry improve the range, charging speed and overall performance of electric vehicles, while enabling a more compact and lightweight module design by reducing the need for active cooling.
The China International Power Components and Renewable Energy Management Exhibition 2024 (PCIM Asia 2024) will be held in Shenzhen on August 28. SABIC will highlight the ELCRES HTV150A capacitor film material and its first capacitor prototype for commercial application at the show. SABIC sincerely invites you to come to the exhibition and communicate.
